"Aikido begins with you
... Everyone has a spirit
that can be refined, a body that can be trained in
some manner ... Foster peace in your own life and
then apply the Art to all that you encounter."
Aikido is a non-competitive martial art for self defense that
teaches how to use, rather than oppose, the force of an
attacker. Founded in this century by Morihei Ueshiba in
Japan, Aikido's roots trace back to the fighting arts of the
samurai.
Aikido teaches how to meet attacks with relaxed, effective
responses. Aikido is an excellent art for men and women of
all ages, as it relies on inner power, rather than brute force.
Learning to meet stress with calm, the student of Aikido soon
discovers ways to apply its principles to the non-physical
assaults of everyday life. More than an excellent form of self
defense, Aikido is a profound path for self development.
